Drunkards Path Quilt Blocks.

These are fairly easy blocks to make, but lots of people shy away from them because they are too scared to attempt sewing 2 curved seams together. However, there are lots of tutorials on YouTube and different layouts to drool over on Pinterest. Give it a try and after making a couple of blocks you’ll be surprised at how easy it really is. If this is your first attempt, you can use a lot of pins or you can glue the seams together with some Elmers School glue that washes out. Just watch a few tutorials and after a few blocks you’ll skip the pins or the glue. If you don’t fancy cutting all those circles, you can also cut them on a Silhouette, Scan and Cut, or similar cutting machine. I believe that the AccuQuilt also has a dye for the pieces. The size is up to you or depends on the machine you use to cut. There are also acrylic templates on the market.

If you want to draw your own template start with a square with a quarter circle cut out. After you cut them apart, you will have to add a 0.25” seam allowance. The size is your choice, but I started with a 5” square and a 3.75” quarter circle.

The fun with Drunkards Path is that there are so many ways that the blocks can be arranged. Below there are just a few layout examples, but there are many more possibilities. You can also play with the arrangement of the colors. For example, the last 2 pictures below are the same layout, but the colors were reversed resulting in a completely different look.

In case you wonder how the blocks were arranged in the layouts, the last picture shows a quarter of the second layout.

I hope this will inspire you to give it a try and then order my quilting designs on the home page. By the way, the quilting designs can also be used in squares or squares with circles. You are not restricted to Drunkards Path blocks.

If you like this blog post, please leave a comment. If nobody reads it I won’t bother with these little extras in the future.

Have a great day.
